‘Knots Landing’ Star Kevin Dobson Dies
Sad to hear that ‘Knots Landing’ star Kevin Dobson died Sunday night at the age of 77 from an undisclosed illness. Known for his many TV appearances over the years, to me he will always be Mack from ‘Knots Landing’ the nice guy who could rock a sweater and a perm.
It gets little acknowledgement now, but “Knots Landing,” a spinoff of “Dallas,” was hugely popular during it’s 14 season run on CBS, at one point being the longest running prime time drama after “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza.” I loved this show. Never did a cul de sac look so cool.
Many careers were launched or revived on ‘Knots Landing’: Alec Baldwin, Lisa Hartman, Nicollette Sheridan, William Devane, the lady with the best eye makeup in town Donna Mills, Joan Van Ark, Michele, with one L, Lee, Michelle Philips from the Mamas and the Papas and Tony Award winner Julie Harris.
You got to love a show that has a character named Valene Clements Ewing Ewing Gibson Waleska Ewing. Do they make shows like “Knots Landing” anymore? They probably do, but they don’t resonate with us the same way, though I don’t know why. Too bad, in the ‘80s it was fun looking forward to a night of mayem with the best coiffed cul de sac in California.
