Rick Springfield 2020 Tour Cancelled
As a goofball ‘80s girl I miss going to concerts, but I can put it in perspective with the pandemic. I get it. In March, bands and musicians like Chicago and Rick Springfield were “postponing” their shows, a few months later they were making the big decision to “cancel” for the year. This does affect those of us that like to get out and hear live music, but also everyone involved in a live venue. I’m not thinking of the big musicians, they’ll most likely be fine, what about the vendors, sound technicians, back up band. Nothing we, as fans can do. Just hoping we’re back in an arena, smokey bar, theatre sometime soon.
As you recall, Rick Springfield announced in December of 2019 that he was going to tour this summer with Chicago. As the opening act. Many of his fans were surprised that Rick would be performing before Chicago, but excited to see him tour nonetheless (he’s a headliner, people). Tickets were a bit pricey, so I still wasn’t sure where I stood on going (not a Chicago fan, even for an ‘80s girl) but the decision was made for me not only for this year, but for next.
In March, Chicago posted on social media that they were postponing all March, April and May shows. By May, Chicago announced that the dates had been rescheduled for 2021. Shortly after, RickSpringfield.com posted an update that “we regret to announce that due to scheduling conflicts, will no longer be joining Chicago on their rescheduled 2021 tour dates.”
Rick usually has a very heavy tour schedule, so he probably already had some shows in the works. The Rick Springfield website does currently list tickets for upcoming shows, not with Chicago. There is one this December in Alabama, then a few in March. Though the site has the disclaimer that “with the current world situation” they’ll be taking it day by day.
While we wait to find out if we’ll be seeing Rick live anytime soon, can someone please explain to me what “25 and 6 to 4” means?
