5:40 pm PT David Lee Roth has responded to the news of former bandmate Eddie Van Halen’s death.
“What a Long Great Trip It’s Been” David Lee Roth posted on Twitter and Instagram with a recent-ish photo of the two. Roth and Van Halen have a notoriously icy relationship, too much to go into right now. But whatever issues they may have, surely the news of Eddie’s death was a shock to David Lee Roth.

Original Post
We are so sad to write that Eddie Van Halen died today at the age of 65. His son, with Valerie Bertinelli, made the announcement on Twitter. From Wolfgang Van Halen:
Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli
Valerie and Eddie married in 1981 and were the IT Couple for ‘80s rock. We were all rooting for them as a couple, but they divorced in 2007. They had Wolfgang Van Halen in 1991.
From all accounts, the exes seemed to be friendly. They each have remarried and went to each other’s wedding.
About today’s horrible news, Valerie retweeted Wolfgang’s post and responded to their son’s tweet with broken heart emojis.
Two days ago Valerie, perhaps knowing Eddie was not doing well, tweeted an image with a quote from Zelda Fitzgerald:
Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold.
Van Halen Bandmates
Former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar, who left the band acrimoniously in 1996 after 11 years in the band, tweeted:
Heartbroken and speechless. My love to the family.
RIP Eddie. You are a legend.
Do you remember Sam the Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf?
