American Girl ‘80s Historical Character

Disclaimer: I don’t have kids so I barely know what American Girl dolls are.

Well that’s a dagger to the aging ‘80s heart to have American Girl classify their ‘80s character as “historical.” Historical. This is where I almost get hysterical. Historical I think “Little House on the Prairie” not the ‘80s.

Let’s be honest, a couple things are happening in this situation. American Girl ran out of ideas. A Gen-Xer was promoted to head of character design.

Courtney Moore, as the ‘80s girl is called, comes with a jean skirt, colorful tights and boots. For an extra $30 you can add jelly bracelets (do they know the hidden meanings behind those?!), mini buttons, lip gloss, walkman and the coveted mixtape. Ok, I want all of these things in adult size.

For $149 you can buy Courtney a working PacMan machine (wha?!). Fanny pack, boombox and a shirt with a tie, are all extra as well.

So what do we think, Gen-Xers? Just part of aging? Accepting that your generation is “historical”?
