The iconic “Top Gun” soundtrack was the number one album in the country for five weeks, the top soundtrack of 1986 and one of the best selling soundtracks of all-time. It was produced by Giorgio Moroder.

While “Danger Zone” is the most memorable song from “Top Gun,” “Take My Breath” Away” is the most award winning, grabbing an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Song. Both were written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock (I just assumed Kenny Loggins wrote “Danger Zone”).

Other songs on the soundtrack by Moroder and Whitlock include “Lead Me On” (performed by Teena Marie) and Through the Fire (performed by Larry Greene).

“Hot Summer Nights,” by Miami Sound Machine, “Heaven in Your Eyes” by Loverboy, “Mighty Wings” by Cheap Trick are also on the album. “Playing With the Boys,” by Kenny Loggins was playing during that volleyball scene. “Destination Unknown” by Marietta Waters, isn’t one of the most popular songs from the album but it is a perfect ‘80s song.

Instrumental music on the album include “Top Gun Anthem” by Harold Faltermeyer.

Was Danger Zone Written For Top Gun?

Soundtrack producer Moroder and songwriter Whitlock wrote “Danger Zone” specifically for Top Gun; the films producer were having a hard time finding a song that matched the flight footage. Kenny Loggins was offered the song after allegedly Toto and Corey Hart turned it down.

Is Danger Zone in Top Gun: Maverick?

Of course they put “Danger Zone” in “Top Gun: Maverick,” they’d be crazy not to.
