‘Pretty in Pink’ Prom Dress: Let’s Talk About It
It says something about a movie if it stirs up passion towards the smallest of issues because of it’s beloved status. Meaning: if “Pretty in Pink” was a crap movie I wouldn’t feel so passionately about certain aspects. It’s a beloved movie, and because of that I might be nitpicking it more than usual.
Andrew McCarthy’s bad hair/wig at the prom for instance. That drives me nuts. And in this case of this blog post, it’s the prom dress that Molly Ringwald’s character (Andie) made. From the first time I saw the movie, to present day, I am in utter befuddlement at the anti-couture creation. How could something so fashion-less be in another otherwise hit flick? Especially since Andie was very fashion forward. It seemed out of character…or did it?
Pretty in Pink Prom Dress Designer Had a Reason For that Creation
According to Huffington Post, costume designer Marilyn Vance says she didn’t want the prom dress to be trendy, like with big shoulder pads, she went in the opposite direction. And, Ringwald’s character didn’t have much money and was making the dress herself, the design had to reflect that.
Molly Ringwald Hated the Dress
Marilyn Vance tells HuffPo that Ringwald didn’t like the dress, she wanted to be in dresses like the other girls.
What did you think? Were you a fan of the dress?
